The expansion of the Euroterminal Sławków is a project that not only transforms the face of Polish logistics but also strengthens Poland’s position on the geopolitical map of Europe. On May 26, 2025, in Sławków, an investment agreement was signed between the Industrial Development Agency and Euroterminal Sławków. The aim of the agreement is to expand this strategic logistics hub, which is expected to play a key role in the reconstruction of Ukraine and reinforce Poland's position as a transport leader in Central and Eastern Europe. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak.
As part of the first stage of the investment, a second intermodal terminal with seven new tracks is planned, which will significantly increase the facility's capacity. Modern transshipment equipment will also be installed to handle intermodal containers, speeding up the transportation of goods from Ukraine and Asia to Europe.
The investment, valued at 180 million PLN, is a key element of a strategy aimed at strengthening Poland’s position as a logistics leader in Central and Eastern Europe and supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Infrastructure is the lifeblood of the Polish economy, which is why the expansion of the terminal in Sławków is the best investment from the perspective of Polish logistics and transport. It is modern and plays a key role in transshipment processes across Europe and beyond – said Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak.
Sławków is Poland’s window to the world, which is why oversight of its development should remain 100 percent in Polish hands. Whoever controls the Euroterminal in Sławków controls the flow of goods between the European Union and Ukraine – added the Minister of Infrastructure.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the strategic location of the Euroterminal at the crossroads of pan-European transport corridors linking east with west and north with south, highlighting the latter direction.
This particular direction – connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Baltic – is currently even more important for Sławków than the east-west corridor, in terms of the volume of cargo passing through the terminal. So we are talking about Italy, the Adriatic countries, and on the other side, the Baltic Hub – two major maritime gateways to the world, with Sławków as the land-based heart in between – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The expansion of the terminal is not just about new tracks and equipment – it is above all a new development impulse for the entire region and country. Its capacity will nearly double. Currently, the terminal handles 285,000 TEU annually, and after the expansion, its handling capacity will increase to 530,000 TEU.
The terminal in Sławków has a unique location – it lies at the intersection of the European rail network and the broad-gauge system originating in the Far East. Its proximity to Kraków-Balice Airport (57 km), Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport (44 km), and two major highways – the A1 (8 km) and A4 (10 km) – are additional advantages that strengthen its position on Poland’s transport map.
The broad-gauge LHS line terminates in Sławków – the only infrastructure of its kind in the European Union – allowing for smooth cargo transfer from Asia without the need to change tracks, which significantly reduces both time and transportation costs. The wide-gauge line, running from the Ukrainian border near Hrubieszów to the terminal in Sławków, is Sławków’s greatest asset.
