Łódź Voivodeship is entering a new era of transportation. It has just signed an agreement to purchase six longer and higher-capacity trains. The vehicles will be manufactured at the PESA Bydgoszcz S.A. facilities. This will be a real innovation in the fleet of Łódź Voivodeship. Each of the six train sets delivered by PESA will be over 80 meters long, offer 220 seats, provide more space for bicycles, include facilities for passengers with disabilities, and have two restrooms - a feature especially important on longer routes. This standard will improve the quality of daily travel for residents across the region.
We are consistently building a strong public transport network in the region. That is why we are already thinking about the future and ordering additional, larger trains that will serve our residents. We will travel more frequently and farther, giving our passengers completely new opportunities to move around the voivodeship and beyond. We want to shorten the distance between towns and people, so every investment in new rolling stock is well-spent money.
– Joanna Skrzydlewska, Marshal of Łódź Voivodeship.
The new trains will reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. They will be equipped with the most advanced safety systems, parameter recording, and interior monitoring. Their lightweight yet durable shell design ensures passenger safety and helps reduce daily operating costs.
This is another contract that allows us to deliver proven technology to the region in a new, longer configuration. Having previously fulfilled an order for 14 Elf 3.0 vehicles, we are well-acquainted with mutual expectations and the specifics of Łódź railways. This ensures that these new units will be a fully coherent and efficient addition to the voivodeship’s fleet.
– Krzysztof Zdziarski, CEO of PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.
Łódź Voivodeship is not working with PESA Bydgoszcz S.A. for the first time. Earlier this year, 14 Elf 3.0 trains, ordered by the Marshal’s Office, will join the Łódź Agglomeration Railway.
This is an experienced partner who knows our needs well. I believe that cooperation on this new contract will proceed as smoothly as before. This is a choice based on clear criteria, guaranteeing high quality, modern solutions, and safe execution of the entire order. We thank them for their readiness to collaborate on such an important project for us.
– Piotr Wojtysiak, Deputy Marshal of Łódź Voivodeship.
Our priority is to deliver trains with significantly higher capacity, meeting the region’s growing transport needs. Longer train sets will allow for more efficient service on the busiest routes, providing passengers with sufficient seating and travel comfort.
– Maciej Maciejewski, Vice President for Sales, PESA Bydgoszcz S.A.
The base version of the agreement covers the delivery of six vehicles, with an option to order an additional twelve trains.
This contract also includes 25 years of maintenance for these vehicles, with a 5-year optional extension - so essentially 30 years of train maintenance by a single company. This provides long-term security, essentially covering the entire operational life of the trains. It is truly a comprehensive agreement, and the years of experience of many people working at the Łódź Agglomeration Railway and the Marshal’s Office allow us to make each order increasingly better and more refined.
– Maciej Sobieraj, CEO of Łódź Agglomeration Railway.
The cost of purchasing six new trains is over PLN 323 million. PLN 220 million will come from European Funds allocated to Łódź. The first vehicles are expected to run on the voivodeship’s tracks in 2029.
