“Urban Logistics” and the matter of Polish science

On November 18th and 19th, the First International Conference of Student Scientific Circles of Logistics and Transport titled “Urban Logistics” took place, organized by the College of Logistics in Poznań. The meeting was part of a series of free student events that have been organized for several years by student scientific circles operating at economic universities and technical universities in various cities across Poland. The Poznań conference was one of the most numerous. The organizers managed to invite 150 participants from 13 scientific circles, representing universities from 7 cities, to the two-day deliberations. They were accompanied by lecturers, business representatives, and students from a partner German university – the Technische Fachhochschule in Wildau near Berlin.
On the first day, the paper titled “Logistics initiatives in cities – main areas of application and development trends” by Anna Gojlik, M.Sc., a doctoral student from the Gdynia Maritime University, was met with great appreciation. This presentation is worth noting additionally positively, as it was received particularly warmly by the young audience.
The second day of the deliberations was devoted almost exclusively to presentations by student scientific circles. A pleasant surprise was the high level of several papers prepared by students, especially since some of the young speakers were presenting in public for the first time in their lives. Among these papers, the study by students of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Michał Chrąchol, Martyna Górecka, Tomasz Trabszo, Marek Wiercioch, Michał Siergiejewicz, Łukasz Kordas, Ksawery Kurdyś, and Tomasz Chrąchol) titled “Traffic intensity research at Grunwaldzki Square in Wrocław” should be distinguished. This presentation caused a storm of applause not only because of the expressive form of the presentation but above all because of the research passion of its authors, documented by a reliable scientific study. Thanks to field research (analysis of traffic intensity and organization, vehicle occupancy, etc.), the authors managed to present the causes of congestion in the studied area of the city in a convincing way.
