The program “Starters Disk EAN Code System”, distributed by the Dutch national EAN organization (AIS), is a tool used for registering and managing EAN/UPC codes, and it also has the ability to generate barcodes in graphic form on labels. Article data is gathered in a tabular format containing product information: EAN/UPC code, article description, internal product code, as well as other user-entered product information such as production date, sale date, supplier, recipient, price, quantity, etc. Data in the articles table can be sorted, printed, and modified.
The program supports EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, and ITF-14 codes. For the EAN-13 code, there is an option to set automatic suggestions for the next product number, which reduces the risk of entering an identical number for a different product. The user can also calculate the check digit for the available code types. If necessary, all or part of the articles table can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet.
