The Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) is an EAN/UCC standard for identifying and labeling shipping units. It is assigned only once, at the time of forming a given logistic unit, and identifies it throughout its entire lifecycle. From this moment on, it can be used by all partners participating in the supply chain.
Serial shipping container numbers, assigned by senders of shipments, can be used in internal control and distribution systems. The use of these unique numbers has numerous advantages, primarily ensuring unambiguous identification of shipments, which enables providing the customer (manufacturer or supplier) with current information on the flow of shipments, using the same identifiers applied in both internal and open systems.
