Athenasoft has introduced a new version of Label Editor 3.05, a popular program for generating barcodes as well as designing and printing product and packaging labels, clothing tags, payment forms, prints, and forms.

The most important new feature introduced in version 3.05 is providing users with new barcode standards: the UCC/EAN-128 code and the ITF-14 code (with characteristic horizontal and vertical guard bars) used for marking master cartons.

The UCC/EAN-128 code allows printing in Label Editor of all Application Identifiers (so-called AIs) that have been approved so far by the National Organization EAN Poland. Application Identifiers are used for product identification, entering transport route data, dates, quantities, and units of measure. AIs are used for marking trade and logistic units, resources, locations, defining service relations, and in special applications such as: coupons, utility bills, returnable items, payments, meat marking, and customer-defined goods. Application Identifiers will be used, among others, by the post office, healthcare (prescriptions), and the military (NATO stock number).

The use of AIs in the program is supported by automatic data entry validation and an extensive help system. If incorrect AI identifier data is entered, the program displays an error message and informative text on how the correct information should be formatted.

Athenasoft also offers the EESERV.DLL library enabling direct access to the printing functions of Label Editor, which can be used to generate label and form prints in other external applications. Print templates previously designed by the user in the Editor can be dynamically filled with data from the program utilizing the library. In this way, any application can be easily expanded with all the capabilities of the Editor related to printing barcodes, special symbols, and even very complex forms. Currently, the POLKA and FORTUNA programs use the Label Editor library.

The Label Editor program is recommended by the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing in Poznań – the national EAN Poland organization – as best meeting the requirements of EAN and Polish Standards regarding the use of Application Identifiers. The price of the label editor is 480 PLN + 22% VAT. A free trial version is available on the ATHENASOFT website.
