RFID/EPC Congress 2006 in Europe for the first time

640 participants from 27 European countries and 15 from outside Europe, 40 speakers, and 32 exhibitors met in D
üsseldorf during the first European RFID/EPC Conference.
The congress was organized by GS1 Europe. All conference participants took part in discussions on the opportunities and challenges brought by RFID technology in Europe. The speakers represented various sectors and industries: healthcare, publishing, aerospace and automotive, transport, and logistics. Each of them presented the advantages of using RFID. The conference was accompanied by a thematically related exhibition – ‘RFID-City’. In the Innovation Park, it was possible to see live how RFID technology functions. Participants visited the RFID/EPCglobal research laboratories located on the park’s premises, or rather, it should be written: a science and technology town near Dortmund. The LogIDLab, belonging to the Dortmund University, conducts research related to RFID technology, which focuses primarily on testing device performance depending on environmental conditions, as well as testing applications that support this technology and function only within an enterprise. The laboratory also serves a demonstration function. In turn, the openID-Center, belonging to the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, is a demonstration laboratory where the integration of state-of-the-art equipment related to warehouse logistics and internal transport is shown, combined with RFID technology. The laboratory is designed as a fully automated warehouse using RFID technology for object identification.
