UPS has announced the expansion of its UPS Trade Direct Air and Ocean services, enabling customers to transport goods faster and more efficiently on one of the fastest-growing trade routes – between Asia and Europe.
“Companies need a simple way to move their goods from the factory in Asia directly to the European market. A good example here is the high-tech sector, which accounts for 37% of Asian exports to Europe. Speed and reliability are essential,” said Wolfgang Flick, President of UPS Europe.
“This does not only apply to the high-tech sector. Overall container exports from Asia to Europe are constantly growing, maintaining double-digit growth rates. We want to ensure that UPS customers transporting their goods between Asia and Europe can now benefit from this service, which already facilitates trade on other global trade routes,” he continued.
Trade Direct services improve supply chain efficiency by transporting large shipments and small packages destined for multiple customers as a single air or ocean shipment, passing through a single customs clearance. Upon arrival in Europe, the small packages are introduced into the UPS European transport network and shipped directly to the final recipients. Trade Direct users thus gain benefits resulting from speed, full shipment visibility, tax facilitation, and increased customer satisfaction. And all this is available through a single source.
The introduction of Trade Direct services for shipments transported from Asia to Europe follows the successful implementation of the service on other important routes. UPS introduced Trade Direct services for shipments exported from Europe to the United States in January 2005, and by January 2006, it plans to introduce Trade Direct services for shipments originating from the United States to Europe.
