Transport Logistic Trade Fair – report from Munich

Guests from all over the world who came to Munich between May 31 and June 3 for the tenth edition of the Transport Logistics trade fair were not disappointed. The offer of nearly 1,400 exhibitors from 51 countries, as well as the diversity and high substantive level of the accompanying events, leave no doubt – the logistics industry is currently booming. Almost everything that testifies to the enormous potential of logistics was presented on an area of 75,000 sq. m. Visitors had a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest solutions in logistics transport systems, the offer of global logistics operators, and the current state and development plans of European logistics centers, seaports, and inland ports.

A significant feature of this year’s edition of the fair, and thus its huge attraction, was the presence of companies representing all branches of transport. Representatives of European logistics centers and ports (the latter numbering as many as 80) came to Munich with their offers. Conversations and discussions with managers of German, Italian, or Spanish logistics centers were an opportunity to obtain detailed information about experiences in the construction and operation of these facilities, as well as the benefits resulting for all interested parties. The managing director of the logistics center in Bologna, Gilberto Galloni, emphasized in an interview with our editorial team that in Italy, the definition and goals of a logistics center were written down as early as 1990 in a special act regulating issues related to transport infrastructure and intermodality. It was precisely legal regulations and significant financial commitment from the state that were the impulse for the dynamic development of logistics centers in that country.

Visiting the perfectly prepared exhibition and participating in numerous conferences from the extremely rich program of accompanying events, it was hard to resist the impression that we were taking part in a great celebration of logistics. Three international thematic congresses (Eurail Freight 2005, Marilog, and AirCargo Europe), 30 conferences and seminars, as well as well-attended debates and seminars organized by many exhibitors directly at their stands, are proof of the lively interest in logistics knowledge. One such seminar was a series of presentations devoted to creating a European network of competence centers in logistics. The idea of creating such centers originates from Germany, and an example of good practices in this area is the Logistics Competence Center KLOK. During the presentation of the European NETLOC project, KLOK President Hans-Herman Enders shared experiences resulting from the cooperation of enterprises and public organizations in the Stuttgart region, working together to popularize logistics.

In Munich, the leaders of the TSL industry marked their presence most strongly. At the joint stand of the Stinnes Logistics group, logistics operators presented their offers: Schenker, Stinnes Freight Logistics, Stinnes Intermodal, and Railion.

There was no shortage of exhibitors from Poland at the fair, among them was, among others, the company PKP Cargo. Bogdan Kobus, Director of Marketing and Trade, who was present at the fair, did not hide his satisfaction. – The fair surprised us with the huge interest and willingness to cooperate with PKP Cargo, but also with the Polish market, both from forwarding and operator companies, as well as private railways and railways until recently called national. Every day of the fair was filled with very interesting conversations.

21 companies represented Poland at the Munich fair.
