ProLogis has completed the construction of 50,000 square meters for Tesco in Slovakia

ProLogis, an owner, manager and developer of distribution facilities, has announced that it has completed the construction of a 50,000 square meter “build-to-suit” warehouse building for Tesco.

The newly created Tesco distribution center is located in ProLogis Park Galanta-Gáň, a new ProLogis logistics park situated approximately 60 km northeast of Bratislava. This investment will become the main distribution and warehouse center that will serve Tesco customers in Central and Eastern Europe. The construction of the center for Tesco was completed in the fourth quarter of 2007.

– Strong GDP growth and increasing domestic consumption are driving the growing demand for modern warehouse space in Slovakia – said Jakub Pelikan, Market Officer for ProLogis in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. – Taking advantage of the new opportunities in the Slovak market, leading companies like Tesco are creating a supply network in this region. Our investment is an expression of this trend. We are extremely pleased with the signing of a new “build-to-suit” agreement with Tesco, our long-term client. We are happy that Tesco has once again chosen ProLogis as a provider of warehouse space.
In addition to the space at ProLogis Park Galanta-Gáň, Tesco also leases 217,700 square meters in other ProLogis parks across Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and the United Kingdom.

– ProLogis is a valuable partner for Tesco, providing our company with state-of-the-art distribution centers in many locations across Europe – said Tim Allinson, head of non-food articles’ distribution for Tesco in Central Europe.

ProLogis Park Galanta-Gáň is located near the international E75 road, a major European north-south route. This location is convenient due to its proximity to the airport and river port in Bratislava – from the latter, transport via the Danube to the port of Rotterdam is possible. Ultimately, the park will consist of three top-quality warehouse buildings with a total area of 146,000 square meters.
