Linux in the office

Linux – for some, a panacea for a secure, stable, and inexpensive computer; for others, a completely unacceptable solution. Where does the truth lie? What can be done about it? Many people currently claim that a computer with Linux is secure and stable. Wrong! Neither statement is true. Every computer is vulnerable and unstable, and its susceptibility to errors depends on many factors. Some of these are hardware problems, some are components that are an integral part of the operating system but not from its manufacturer (e.g., all drivers, often written by amateurs for Chinese “no-name” hardware knock-offs), and some are the programs themselves running under its control. It is generally accepted that there are 2-3 errors per 1000 lines of program code on average.
