Electronic banking has firmly established itself on the Polish market. Over the last year, the number of accounts with access to online banking,
according to a report prepared by Money.pl, has increased by as much as 66 percent, and the number of users actively using an e-account is approaching 2 million. However, if we were to rely solely on data presented by the banks themselves, we would have as many as 5.1 million users of online banking accounts in Poland. However, this number is highly inflated, as, for example, Bank Pekao SA offers every client an online account as well, but only one in five of the bank’s clients uses this form of access. mBank has the most active clients – 1,002,800, and the number of accounts is 1.3 million. Electronic banking is offered by most banks operating on the Polish market, but the offers differ both in terms of capabilities and fees.
What every e-account should have, or what to pay attention to when choosing an offer
When wanting to choose a good account, we must first consider what functions will be necessary for us. However, every account – preferably a ROR (checking and savings) account – should, in its standard offer, allow for defining and executing transfers, opening deposits, and the ability to take out a loan without visiting a branch (i.e., remotely), as well as the ability to define standing orders, executed later cyclically by an “automated system”. If the account is to be used by an entrepreneur, i.e., it will be a so-called business account, it should also have the possibility of using the highest possible debit limit with an attractive interest rate, i.e., with the lowest possible percentage. Debit and credit cards in a business version should also be added to the business account, meaning with greater capabilities than those intended for individual clients. This mainly concerns the amount of the non-interest-bearing credit limit and its long duration. When choosing, let us also consider whether we will pay with cash more often, or whether we will rather use debit or credit cards when making payments.
