Iveco joint venture in China launches Kingkan

Kingkan is a heavy-duty truck for industrial tasks, the result of the work of the Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co. (SIH) joint venture, established by Iveco, SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), and Chongqing Machinery. The Kingkan was officially unveiled at the OCT Theatre on October 26, 2011, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
The vehicle’s name is intended to reflect its characteristics. “Kingkan” can be translated as “king”. “Kan”, on the other hand, is the name of a very strong animal in a Chinese legend, which symbolizes immense power. According to the manufacturer, the Kingkan is a safe, powerful, comfortable, high-load, solid, and durable vehicle.

– SIH, the Iveco joint venture operating in the Chinese market, and the new Kingkan are the result of a solid partnership between SAIC Motors and Iveco over the last few years – said Franco Ciranni, Iveco Vice President for International Operations. – The Kingkan will be able to compete in the domestic market, where sales volume exceeds nine hundred thousand vehicles per year. Our truck possesses many features and reliability that qualify it for operation in other countries around the world.
