A large retail and service center will soon be built next to the IKEA store in Poznań’s Franowo district.
Inter IKEA Centre Polska SA intends to build a large shopping center near its furniture store in Poznań, which will include shops, services, dining options, an interior design center, and possibly offices or a hotel as well. The concept for the new retail and service complex has already been submitted to the City Hall, and IKEA has applied for zoning and land development conditions for its plots.
The new facilities will be built in stages, gradually densifying the space. Between the stores, there will be greenery and small architecture: sculptures, benches, and street lamps. A bus will run between the two ends of the complex. IKEA also wants to make it easier for pedestrians from the Rataje housing estates to reach the new center. A footbridge over the two streets separating the Czecha estate from the commercial areas is intended to help with this. Access from the city, in turn, is to be made easier thanks to the planned extension of the tram line to Franowo. The target area of the entire center will be 91,000 square meters, and the Franowo facilities are expected to provide jobs for approximately 1,500 people. When construction will begin is not yet known.
