Computer-Aided Traffic Control (KWSR) is the first comprehensive public transport vehicle management system in Poland. It was implemented by Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne w Poznaniu Spółka z o. o. (Poznań Municipal Transport Company).

It enables the observation of the actual position of buses on the route and also allows the driver to send predefined digital messages to the headquarters.
Talks between MPK Spółka z o.o. and the German company TTI regarding the implementation of the KWSR system began in the mid-90s. It took four years to implement the system and purchase the equipment, as well as to equip the vehicles with onboard computers, terminals, and the necessary
software. For two years, the system has been operating at the Traffic Supervision Center, to which all information from the vehicles is directed.

The electronic heart of the vehicle
Each bus has been equipped with an onboard computer that supervises radio communication with the Traffic Supervision Center. The computer controls the operation of peripheral devices mounted in the vehicle and connected to the vehicle’s data bus (IBIS), as well as informs the driver and the dispatcher at the center about the current position of the vehicle and any delay/acceleration. It communicates with the center continuously and without the driver’s intervention.
Peripheral devices – ticket validators, internal (LED) and external vehicle displays, voice announcements – are serviced cyclically, and in the event of data changes, their handling is immediate. During communication disruptions with the computer, the ticket validators switch to autonomous operating mode, where print control is taken over by the validator’s internal clock. In the event of restoring proper communication with the computer, control is handed back to the onboard computer.
