A DPD branch has been opened in Gdańsk. It is a modern facility featuring 55 courier gates and 11 loading docks. The branch will also serve as a sorting center, which will improve parcel delivery not only in the Pomeranian region but also across the entire country.
The value of the Pomeranian investment is approximately 17 million PLN. In addition to the land purchase cost of 2.5 million PLN, this amount also includes the value of equipping the branch with roller conveyors and computers – 2.2 million PLN.
A facility with an area of 2,946 sqm has been put into operation. The start date for the second phase of construction will depend on the operational needs of the branch.
Currently, about 120 people work at the Gdańsk branch. However, thanks to the capabilities of the new sorting center, the company plans to recruit more employees. Ultimately, the new branch will employ approximately 150 couriers and 50 office and warehouse staff.
Rafał Nawłoka, CEO of DPD Polska, said: – The construction of the facility in Gdańsk is part of the company’s operational strategy, which involves creating several distributed sorting centers in Poland. The benefit of such a solution, as opposed to a model based on a single central hub, is greater efficiency and operational security. Moreover, concentrating distribution in one place, given the company’s growing vehicle fleet and Poland’s poorly developed road infrastructure, does not guarantee the success of our operations. Sorting centers will be located in Gdańsk, Warsaw, Poznań, Katowice, and Łódź.
This year, as part of its investments, DPD Polska has already expanded 27 branches. Professional courier facilities have also been received by the cities of Płock, Opole, Zielona Góra, and Koszalin, and offices and warehouses in Bielsko-Biała, Kraków, Szczecin, Wrocław, and Kielce will be commissioned in the near future.
