DHL supports a good climate

DHL, the global leader in logistics, has become the Official Logistics Partner for the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference, providing carbon-neutral solutions.

Before and during the conference, which will take place from December 7-18 in Copenhagen, DHL will be responsible for organizing eco-friendly global transport for shipments needed by delegates, participants, and organizers. The United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held for the 15th time. This year’s deliberations will focus on actions planned for 2010 to delay climate change and adapt to it. The main task for the conference participants will be to develop a package of solutions for the coming year that will effectively contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions on a global scale. Nearly 200 representatives from United Nations member countries will take part in the December session. DHL’s participation in the UN Climate Change Conference is another pro-ecological initiative that the company will carry out as part of the GoGreen program.

– By supporting the Copenhagen conference with our actions, we are taking a stand in the discussion on progressive climate change – says Piotr Iwaniuk, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding – The GoGreen program implemented by DHL is an initiative aimed at calculating carbon dioxide emissions across all our company’s branches and developing and implementing solutions to reduce them.

An element of the GoGreen program is a transport service carried out without carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere – DHL GoGreen. As part of the service, DHL is introducing energy-efficient units, hybrid vehicles, and modern technologies that will contribute to a 10% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions over the next three years. DHL plans that thanks to these types of solutions, CO2 emissions will be reduced by as much as 30% by 2020.
