Many GS1 system participants in Poland contact the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing, as the national GS1 organization, with requests to clarify the requirements of their foreign customers regarding barcode quality.
A foreign customer, for example, demands that our manufacturer provide a product with a barcode of at least quality grade C (2), and our manufacturer usually does not know how to interpret this type of requirement. This article aims to describe the methods of barcode quality assessment, which is performed using specialized devices called barcode quality verifiers. A GS1 system participant can request a certificate of barcode quality with the quality grade from the printing house commissioned to print the packaging with the barcode. They can also own a barcode quality verifier themselves and use it to check the quality of their barcodes.
