The National Forum of Transport and Logistics Students TransLogistics is an event that has already gained recognition among Scientific Circles in Poland. It is also appreciated by companies in the TSL industry, some of which took part in this celebration of logistics and transport for the second time (e.g., Lufthansa). The current third edition took place in the most modern hall of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The portal logistyka.net.pl provided patronage over this conference.
Traditionally, the first day of the conference was dedicated to transport, while the second to logistics. The conference was opened by the Vice-Rector of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Prof. Janusz Szafran, and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, who presented our faculty – combining tradition with modernity. On the transport day, the following issues were addressed – Panel 1: modern technologies in transport, Panel 2: methods of financing vehicle fleets, Panel 3: safety in transport. For the second time, we hosted a representative of Lufthansa Cargo, who presented the practical management of such a complex system as the company’s network. Tools used in the daily implementation of the company’s strategy were presented on a practical example. In addition, Lufthansa Cargo offered the opportunity for a conference participant, selected through a test related to the presentations of the first panel, to complete an internship. On that day, participants also listened to presentations by companies: TimoCom, Panalpina Polska Sp. z o.o., and the European Leasing Fund. Student presentations concerned, among others, the transport handling of dangerous goods (A. Mikołajczyk, A. Świniarski, KN AE Logic from Poznań, Poznań University of Economics and Business) or the positive aspects of using CB-radio to shorten travel time (K. Karaś, KN Logistics, Wrocław University of Science and Technology).
The second day covered the following issues – Panel 1: new trends in logistics, Panel 2: computer-aided logistics. On this day, we started with very forward-looking topics, such as the closed-loop supply chain (N. Edwardczyk, KN Logistyka, Poznań University of Technology) and an overview of global activities in the field of reverse logistics (M.Sc. Eng. M. Plewa – Department of Logistics and Transport Systems, WUST – and K. Obuchowski, KN Logistics, Wrocław University of Science and Technology), which corresponded with each other – both related to a broader view of distribution logistics than before. The first one showed an example of a car company recovering value from used parts through their reuse. The second presentation discussed the largest and most interesting campaigns related to withdrawing defective products from the market – as one of the types of events that force companies to conduct reverse logistics. On this day, there was also a topic about modern supply chain management methods (S. Piątek, Eskape Identifikationstechnik AG, KN Logistics), dealing with the application of Lean Logistics supported by automatic identification. Participants had the opportunity to see how one of the devices supporting warehouse work, provided by Eskape Identifikationstechnik AG, operates. Electronic data interchange also found its place during TransLogistics 2007 – the Logistics Scientific Circle (R. Kuśmierek, M. Pyza, S. Ignasiak, Agricultural University of Szczecin) presented new forms of EDI – internet solutions that are more accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises (Mail-based EDI, Web-EDI, XML/EDI). Furthermore, the Logistics and Quality Scientific Circle (A. Semik, University of Bielsko-Biała) proved that the thesis about the dying out of barcodes is not true. On the contrary – codes are also developing, as evidenced by the new GS1 DataBar standard (Reduced Space Symbology).
