DB Schenker has become one of the winners of the “Group Award 2009” presented by the Volkswagen Group. The prestigious award was accepted in Wolfsburg by Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, Member of the Management Board of DB Mobility Logistics AG, responsible for the Transport and Logistics Division. The “Volkswagen Group Award” is presented annually to suppliers in recognition of their overall business performance.
Schenker Automotive Railnet GmbH (SAR), a subsidiary of DB Schenker Rail Automotive, received the award for its immense commitment to planning and implementing the supply logistics concept for the new Volkswagen/Skoda factory in Kaluga, located 150 km south of Moscow. Among the car manufacturer’s logistics partners, OJSC TransContainer, a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD), which worked closely with DB Schenker on the project, was also awarded.
DB Schenker is the general contractor and, since 2008, has been coordinating services provided by six freight railway lines, various operators, and other subcontractors for transport between Central Europe and the VW factory in Russia.
– With nine brands and 62 locations worldwide, Volkswagen offers diverse and interesting opportunities for cooperation and is also one of the world’s car manufacturers with stable prospects. They are particularly promising for our main award-winning suppliers, and the Group’s development direction guarantees a successful future, despite the currently unfavorable conditions. – said Dr. Javier Garcia Sanz, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, responsible for Procurement.
