Urbanized areas can be treated in the country’s logistics system as links in the logistics chain and as autonomous urban systems. These two aspects require a holistic and sustainable approach regarding the role that cities play in the local, regional, national, and international layout.
This, in turn, depends on the size of the city, its spatial structure, and dominant functions. Another factor shaping urban systems is the relationship between economic and social life – logistics in this case is a service performed for both fields of residents’ activity, with different needs and expectations of users and conditions for meeting those needs. Finally, the third domain of the city is political activity – planning and managing the city as a search for a balance of factors: internal and external, and within them – spatial, environmental, economic, business, and social elements.
