The paper presents the results of research and their analysis regarding the measurement of effective performance indicators of a PERKINS 1104C-44 compression-ignition engine. The engine was powered by a mixture of hydrocarbon fuel and biobutanol, and for comparison, by hydrocarbon, low-sulfur diesel fuel. The article demonstrates the impact of the aforementioned fuels on the engine’s effective performance indicators. The dynamic increase in the use of CI (compression-ignition) engines, including agricultural ones, entails many negative consequences, including environmental pollution.
Engine designers are therefore striving to make them less harmful to the environment by reducing their noise levels and minimizing exhaust toxicity.
The increasing number of CI engines in operation necessitates research and the subsequent supply to the market of an increasing amount of modern fuels that influence engine performance indicators: energy, economic, and primarily ecological [4].
The purpose of using liquid alternative fuels to power CI engines is to ensure the largest possible fuel base for a given country. (…)
