The terminology used on a daily basis, both in colloquial speech and in various publications, shows that a variety of devices are used in logistics production and distribution chains, and for some of them, the nomenclature used is not always correct. It should be assumed that in many cases such a situation arises as a result of a lack of knowledge of the subject. The second part of the article presented an example of the use of incorrect terminology in relation to static frame palletless racks, which are referred to as pallet racks.
One of the links in supply chains is warehouses. The popularization of road transport has meant that these are now most often warehouses with ramp-less loading fronts, having a certain number of loading bays where loading operations are carried out. In practice, these positions are very often incorrectly referred to as docks (from the English term dock). Indeed, the word dock is translated as a dock, which is a type of artificial basin in a port with appropriate equipment for the repair or construction of ships.
The article comes from the magazine “Logistyka” No. 4/2005.
