SUGAR – time for urban logistics!

In Europe, professionals are focusing their attention on Urban Logistics, recognizing its impact on overall traffic management in cities. Realizing how important Urban Logistics is, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Fondazione Istituto sui Trasporti e la Logistica (ITL) began work on the SUGAR project as early as 2007. Last year, the SUGAR project was successfully included in the INTERREG 4C Programme.

The main premise of the SUGAR project is to analyze the causes of inefficient and ineffective management that still affects urban freight distribution in most European cities. The SUGAR project will promote exchange, discussion, and the transfer of smart policy experiences and technical solutions. Therefore, in the SUGAR project, the identification of good practices plays a key role in supporting policy development. The exchange of knowledge regarding good practices acts as a lever to stimulate the development of local action plans for urban logistics. One of the main goals of the SUGAR project is to initiate and facilitate the development of these action plans. This makes policymakers the primary beneficiaries and target group of the SUGAR project. The SUGAR project was officially launched in November 2008 and will run until the end of February 2012.

The project was launched during a successful meeting organized in Bologna on March 5 and 6, 2009. Currently, intensive work is underway on the activities provided for by the three components of the project.

Since March 2009, significant progress has been made within the Communication and Dissemination Component. This part of the project is dedicated to spreading information about the activities within the SUGAR project and the results achieved at the European and local levels. Communication activities are essential to reach key stakeholders who could support the project and contribute to its development.

The full content of the news and detailed information about the SUGAR project can be read in the project newsletter, which is available HERE.
