Tramino is a low-floor, single-space, five-section tram with a length of 31.96 m. The Solaris Tramino that has entered the Poznań tracks to carry passengers in regular service is not yet the first tram from the delivery of 45 units planned for 2011-2012. It is a pre-series unit that meets all requirements for carrying passengers and has been tested in Poznań over the last few months.
– We decided to lease this vehicle mainly to gather additional experience from operation in real traffic with passengers. Thanks to this, both the drivers and the technical staff will be perfectly prepared to receive the first batch of Solaris Tramino trams, which will arrive in the middle of this year – said Jan Firlik, Director of the Tram Transport Division at MPK Poznań.
The tram lease agreement between the Solaris company and the Poznań Municipal Transport Company (MPK) was signed for three years. During its term, the Poznań carrier will pay only for the kilometers traveled with passengers. The agreement provides that Solaris will be able to borrow the tram for trade fairs and presentations. Ongoing maintenance is provided by the tram manufacturer. Furthermore, in the first weeks of Tramino’s operation, MPK drivers will be accompanied by a Solaris employee who will assist in operating the new vehicle if necessary.
– A group of the best drivers who have undergone special training has already been delegated to operate the Solaris Tramino – assures Jan Firlik.
