During all processes in logistics production and distribution chains, there is a need to carry out storage operations. Generally, it is understood as the storage of goods moved within this process, and a rich set of publications regarding design, applied structural solutions, operational safety, etc., has already been presented on this topic. However, one must realize that while carrying out processes in logistics production or distribution chains, we also perform a whole range of other activities related to them that require storage, or more precisely, the safekeeping of certain products, documents, money, weapons, etc. Even information is a commodity in certain cases. The safekeeping referred to here requires maintaining appropriate security (restriction) of access by unauthorized persons. In practice, specialized storage devices are offered that have varying levels of security for the products, documents, or other items stored inside. Three basic types of devices can be distinguished here:
– free-standing cabinets
– free-standing and built-in safes
– strongboxes.
The lowest level of access security among the aforementioned devices is characterized by free-standing steel cabinets – an example is shown in Fig. 1. Devices of this type:
– are intended mainly for storing documents, portable computer equipment, and other products requiring access security
– are made of sheet metal with a thickness of approx. 1.5 mm, and their doors are equipped alternatively with certified key, combination, or electronic locks.
The cabinet shown in Fig. 2 is characterized by a purpose similar to the one mentioned above, with the exception that its construction provides increased fire resistance, and consequently, allows for the protection of its contents in the event of a fire. The shown cabinet has a class C certificate required for devices intended for storing materials containing classified information. Requirements regarding the class of cabinets have been defined by separate regulations. For example, in Annex 1 to Ordinance No. 49/MON of the Minister of National Defense of August 7, 2002, regarding specific rules for the organization of secret offices, the use of physical protection measures, and the circulation of classified information, the classification and technical requirements for devices for storing classified documents were defined.
