By combining sea and rail container transport, Schenker Deutschland AG has offered Kronotex GmbH a special solution for handling the global export of laminate flooring. At the beginning of July, the first run of a freight train branded by Schenker Deutschland took place between Berlin and Hamburg, departing from the Kronotex site to Bremerhaven.
The first shipment contained 50 containers, each holding 20 tons of laminate flooring. The cargo was dispatched from Bremerhaven to customers in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Previously, goods destined for overseas customers were transported to Bremerhaven by fifty trucks per week.
– The goal of our venture is to combine profitability and environmental awareness with efficient production processes. Therefore, we choose transport modes that best meet these requirements. The services we provide to Kronotex are also an example of how to optimally organize the transport of goods to inland areas while integrating it with solutions offered by global sea freight – said Michael Korn, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Schenker Deutschland AG.
