Schenker ensures secure information in the supply chain

Schenker is the first company in the TSL industry in Poland to have certified its Information Security Management System. The certificate was awarded to the company by the independent certification body Det Norske Veritas.

Logistics is primarily about IT. A logistics operator manages a supply chain that includes many companies – manufacturers, suppliers, and recipients. The proper operation of computer systems and effective information protection are therefore essential conditions for achieving Schenker’s business goals, maintaining good commercial relations with clients and other participants in the chain, and supporting them in building a competitive advantage. The Information Security Management System operates throughout the entire enterprise, and security in all these aspects translates directly into the high quality of solutions expected by the client.

Reducing business risk associated with information processing in the company’s main processes and business functions to an acceptable level is the primary task of the System. Its main objectives include:
– counteracting threats related to the use of IT solutions to support business processes
– counteracting threats related to the improper handling of information
– limiting the scale of undesirable consequences of a threat occurring
– applying applicable legal requirements regarding information protection.

– From the point of view of information security management, one of the key tasks carried out in practically all areas of the company’s operations is regular risk analysis. It is the foundation of the entire system, which allows for the implementation of effective security measures – explains Norbert Bączyk, Head of Systems and Information Security at Schenker Sp. z o.o., who was also responsible for the entire certification process. – The emergence of new risks is inherent in the company’s functioning due to: its dynamic development, new projects, new clients, and the changing environment. Therefore, risk analysis must be performed on an ongoing basis.

The quality and availability of information are key factors in the effective management of an integrated supply chain. As a logistics operator, Schenker is the link connecting the individual elements of the chain and should ensure the flow of reliable and accurate information between all its participants. This means, above all, stable and failure-free operation of all critical IT systems, and in the event of a threat, the restoration of the system in a short time. This is possible thanks to a backup data processing center, ready-made mechanisms, and procedures.
This is of fundamental importance for the quality of services provided and leads to increased security of customer service, protecting against lost benefits in relationships with their business partners. At the same time, it allows for lower service costs, increased effectiveness of planning and decision-making, for example, based on reliable and true data available in systems at the right time. Also, in the event of deviations, the quality of information affects the speed of properly solving the problem and implementing corrective actions.
