Schenker and METRO Group have extended their agreement for the logistics handling of parcels, palletized shipments, and temperature-controlled goods to METRO Group retail stores in Poland.
As part of its “flow logistics” service, Schenker enables all METRO Group suppliers and stores to implement Just-in-Time deliveries. After collection from suppliers, goods are stored primarily on transport vehicles and on store shelves. The time shipments spend in warehouses is therefore kept to a minimum, limited only to the time required for transshipment operations.
Based on web-based solutions, suppliers to the Metro chain can place transport orders, and retail outlets can check the fulfillment of individual orders. Additionally, every participant in the commercial transaction can determine the status of a shipment via the Internet, including whether and when the shipment was accepted by the store.
Furthermore, in July of this year, Schenker won a tender to provide services for the Metro Group, this time in Ukraine. Based on a network of branches located in strategic locations across Ukraine, Schenker provides logistics services – transporting less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments from the recipient to the sender within 24 to 48 hours nationwide. This is possible thanks to daily connections between all terminals. The service includes the transport of parcels and single- or multi-pallet shipments. Since April 2005, a similar service has also been provided for the Metro Group in Russia.
