On March 21, 2011, Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways) invited parties to negotiate the purchase of shares in PKP Cargo S.A. – the second largest rail freight carrier in the European Union. Investors will be able to acquire 50 percent plus one share of the company.

Privatization of PKP CARGO begins

Potential investors, upon meeting the formal requirements set out in the announcement, will be able to download an information memorandum containing, among other things, basic information about the company’s legal and economic-financial situation. The deadline for submitting preliminary share purchase offers is May 12, 2011. Companies admitted by PKP S.A. to the next stage will be able to conduct “due diligence,” i.e., a detailed examination of the enterprise regarding its commercial, financial, and legal situation, which will be used to build binding share purchase offers. Based on the submitted offers, PKP S.A. will select an investor or investors with whom it will begin further negotiations. As a result of the negotiations, an investor will be selected with whom PKP S.A. will conclude an agreement.

– After many years of preparations, we are launching the largest privatization project in the railway industry in Europe – says Maria Wasiak, acting President of the Management Board of PKP S.A. – This is a significant step in the company’s development – she adds.
