Possibility of assessing the technical condition of brake fluid in an onboard brake diagnostic system

The paper presents the results of research on brake fluid conductivity as a function of temperature and water content. The tests were performed across the full temperature range, up to the boiling point of the fluid, thus significantly exceeding the temperatures at which fluid water content is determined using the specific conductivity measurement method. Due to the convexity of the brake fluid conductivity characteristics as a function of temperature and water content, it was determined that a parallel temperature measurement is necessary to determine the boiling point of the fluid in onboard diagnostic systems. Attention was also drawn to the risks associated with testing the water content of fluid taken from the expansion reservoir. The method of direct measurement of the boiling point of fluid from the reservoir does not account for the water content in individual brake cylinders.POSSIBILITY OF BRAKE FLUID TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT IN THE ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC BRAKING SYSTEM
The paper presents the research results of fluid conductivity as a function of temperature and inflow. The study was performed in the full temperature range up to boiling the liquid, exceeding the temperature of testing inflow by using the electrical conductivity method. Due to the maximum of the curve: brake fluid conductivity vs. temperature and inflow, in on-board diagnostic systems is necessary in parallel to measure the temperature. (…)
