PLL LOT strategy until 2012

The Management Board of Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT has presented the assumptions of a new strategy for the years 2008-2012. It is based on increasing the efficiency of the offer within seven main pillars. The company plans, among other things, to standardize the fleet, maintain two brands within the LOT Group, develop connections in eastern directions (Russia, Ukraine), and increase online sales to at least 40% by 2012. The Management Board also assumes the company’s IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2008 and exceeding 200 million PLN in net profit in 2012.

– The presented strategy is a milestone in my work at PLL LOT so far. I am convinced that the program we have prepared is the best possible action plan for LOT. Our most important goal is to achieve satisfactory target profitability, enter the stock exchange, and see a rapidly growing number of passengers and connections – said Piotr Siennicki, President of the Management Board of PLL LOT.

Main assumptions of the “Seven Pillars” strategy of PLL LOT:
– Fleet simplification – it will be designed according to the four-zone principle: long-haul, short-haul, regional, and domestic. Each zone will have a dedicated fleet and one model within each aircraft type.
– Effective network of connections from key Polish airports – creating a transit hub in Warsaw and increasing direct connections from all regional airports.
– Significant improvement in customer service quality – introducing modern aircraft, speeding up ground handling, reducing delays and cancellations, and shortening transfer times.
– Reduction of operating costs, including cheaper distribution systems (Internet) – increasing online sales to 40% in 2012 will enable a 30% reduction in distribution costs.
– Modern tariff system
– Customer-oriented corporate culture
– Two brands – LOT as the main pillar of operations and the primary source of profit, and Centralwings as low-cost air transport and an alternative to low-cost competition

– We will definitely focus on increasing the efficiency and innovation of LOT’s offer, which will result in increased customer loyalty. The assumptions of “hospitality with class” and “savings and efficiency” are the key messages we will uphold. From a national carrier, we will become the preferred carrier for customers flying to and from Poland, with a customer-oriented organizational culture – adds Piotr Siennicki.

LOT plans to launch Asian connections in connection with developing economic contacts, growing investments by Japanese and Korean companies in Poland, as well as significant Vietnamese emigration to Poland. The company is also preparing to handle the jump in air traffic resulting from Euro 2012. Furthermore, the number of connections from Warsaw in eastern directions (Russia, Ukraine) and on long-haul routes will increase. A novelty will be flexible capacity management, adjusting the number of connections to seasonality.
