The logistics modules being implemented as part of the project are the Inventory Management and Procurement systems. The project was preceded by a several-month business analysis phase, conducted by PKP Informatyka analysts and Oracle Polska consultants with the support of experts from the Procurement and Administration Office and the Economic and Financial Office of PKP Intercity.
In the first stage of the implementation, the seven most important PKP Intercity warehouses will be integrated into the system, with the possibility of further increasing their number. The first pilot warehouse is scheduled to be handed over to users in July 2009; after appropriate testing of this installation, the project will be expanded to the company’s remaining warehouses. The planned completion of this stage of the project is the end of 2009. The Oracle logistics applications will be integrated with the systems currently operated by PKP Intercity; an important element of the project is also the migration of data to the new applications from the currently used warehouse system.
Parallel to the installation of the Inventory Management system, the implementation of the Oracle Purchasing system is being carried out for the entire PKP Intercity company. The system will coordinate all processes related to procurement, including purchase requisitions and orders, budget creation and tracking, and approval workflows for all required documents.
– The biggest drawback of our previous warehouse system was that it did not provide managers with the necessary information in real-time – said Jarosław Kowalski, Director of the IT Office at PKP Intercity. – Because warehouse documents were entered into the system with a several-day delay, performing various business analyses was very difficult and, for this reason, done very rarely. In the new system, all changes in inventory levels will be entered in real-time, which will allow our analysts to have a full overview of the situation at any moment it is required.
