The company’s new trains will operate on the Gdańsk – Warsaw – Kraków/Katowice route. They will cover the route from Warsaw to Gdańsk in just 2.5 hours, and from Warsaw to Kraków and Katowice in just over two hours. The trainsets represent not only the highest quality backed by modern solutions but also aesthetics and spacious interiors. Anyone who wants to join the fun – to be the creator of the name and win a prize – can submit proposals via the contest form, which can be found at www.intercity.pl/kolej_na_nazwe. If the winning name is proposed by more than one participant, the prize will be awarded to the person whose entry appears first in the contest’s administrative panel. Additional information and interesting materials about the contest and the trains can be found in the daily edition of Rzeczpospolita or on the website www.rp.pl
– Trainsets are trains that will influence the perception of railways in Poland. They will be fast, modern, comfortable, and at the same time accessible to everyone. All this makes us very keen to choose the right name that fits their character – emphasizes Małgorzata Sitkowska, spokesperson for PKP Intercity.
Due to the fact that the trainsets are energy-efficient and emit a minimum of greenhouse gases, and consume incomparably less energy per passenger-kilometer (pkm) than cars and airplanes, the Greenpeace organization has decided to support the campaign.
– In a world of increasing climate change and rising prices of depleting oil, investing in railways is one of the best possible options. Goods, but also passengers, need to be moved from roads to railways – to give them a chance to travel safely, comfortably, and much more ecologically than is the case today. Moreover, if politicians make the right decisions in the coming years, modern trains could in the future be powered by energy from renewable sources: wind, sun, biomass, or geothermal energy – states Maciej Muskat, Director of Greenpeace Poland.
The carrier expects contest name proposals until September 26, 2011. On Thursday, September 29, the Contest Committee will announce the results and award one prize – the Silver Intercity Card, a six-month, personal ticket entitling the holder to travel on all domestic trains of the Company in 2nd class. Additionally, those distinguished in the contest will receive an invitation to the first ceremonial ride on the modern trains. The contest rules can be found on the website www.intercity.pl and at the PKP Intercity headquarters.
