Mission: organizing and making information accessible

An interview with Artur Waliszewski, Director of Google Poland.
Michał Koralewski: In January of this year, Google officially opened its Polish branch in Warsaw. What does Google Poland do and what are your responsibilities?
Artur Waliszewski: Google’s priority is to meet the needs of users by making it easier for them to find and organize information on the Internet. Localizing products and services is of great importance here – we understand the cultural and geographical differences between the countries in which we operate. Therefore, one of the most important tasks of our office is to listen to the voices of Polish Internet users and convey this feedback within the company so that Google products and services in Poland are as well-adapted to their needs as possible. Users of our advertising program – AdWords – constitute a group of key Google clients. Therefore, one of the tasks of the Polish office is to popularize search engine marketing and show what business benefits can be brought by
online advertising.
M.K.: Why Poland at all? What guided the Google board when deciding to open an office in our country?
A.W.: We are a large European country with a constantly improving economic condition. Economic considerations are therefore obvious. But there are others that influenced the decision: the development of the Internet in Poland is very fast, and Polish users are very active, open to the world, and demanding.
