The new terminal, operated by DHL’s in-house carrier, Danmar Lines, will offer a full range of consolidation services. These services will cover Asian goods arriving from ports in Singapore, Colombo, and Hong Kong. This will enable short transit times to countries in Central and South-Eastern Europe. This year, the terminal’s offer will also be expanded to include goods arriving from New York.
– We believe that with the support of Danmar Lines, as well as our sales forces both at the origin of the goods and at their destination ports, we will achieve the position of market leader – said Marc Meier, Head of Global LCL, DHL Global Forwarding. – The synergy effect that we expect from the cooperation between DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight in Slovenia will contribute to the development of our entire network.
Koper is considered a natural port for goods destined for Central and South-Eastern Europe. In the initial stage of the terminal’s operation, DHL will handle connections to: Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary. Bypassing the traditional northern route will allow for many benefits, including shortening the sea route by 2,000 miles. Thanks to the connection of Koper with the most important cities in Eastern Europe, road freight costs will be reduced. Furthermore, Danmar Lines’ more efficient and environmentally friendly solution will support DHL’s pro-ecological initiative – GoGreen.
