A new company in the regional transport sector is being established, thanks to a joint venture between the Russian Railways and Deutsche Bahn. The goal of the partnership is to develop rail transport between Russia and the European Union and to create better conditions for economic exchange with the Middle East. The new company is intended to be a land-based alternative to sea and air freight.
The President of the Russian railway company RZD, Vladimir Yakunin, and Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Deutsche Bahn, have decided to establish a joint logistics company. The agreement was signed in the presence of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.

The new company will manage a supply chain based on rail transport, connecting Russia with the global logistics network of Deutsche Bahn. Distribution planning and the process of shipping goods from Russia will meet the expectations of demanding clients. The integration of two such entities as the global DB and the Russian RZD will significantly improve their joint position in the rail transport market in Russia and strengthen the overall competitiveness of railway companies in trade between Europe, Russia, and Asia. Particularly important in this area is the joint creation of logistics centers in Russia with access to railway lines. The new company is officially set to launch in the coming months.
