In March 2005, the merger process of national Kuehne+Nagel companies and Ferroviasped, which handled rail freight forwarding within the Kuehne+Nagel group, was completed in Europe and Poland. As a result of the integration with Ferroviasped, Kuehne+Nagel provides customer service in Europe and the countries of the former Commonwealth of Independent States through a network of 31 operational offices. The operator’s total transport volume in 2004 reached 7.8 million tons, with a turnover of 400 million CHF.
Kuehne+Nagel provides freight forwarding services to customers in Poland through offices in Katowice and Małaszewicze, as well as through a network of agents at all PKP points on the eastern border. The company organizes cargo transport based on its own fleet of 1,100 wagons of the Hirrs, Habis, Laans, Sins, Hbbins, and Hbbillns types. The implemented control system allows for real-time tracking of the wagon’s location.
In the rail freight market, apart from PKP Cargo and LHS Sp. z o.o., there are about 20 private companies operating. Kuehne+Nagel in Poland does not intend to apply for licenses for goods transport, and PKP Cargo and PKP LHS remain its strategic carriers. In rail forwarding, Kuehne+Nagel in Poland specializes in handling the transport of goods such as: building materials (ceramic tiles, plasterboard), processed industrial products (household appliances, empty bottles, tobacco), sugar, agricultural machinery, and wood.
