IDENTIFICATION OF BEEF ORIGIN IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN

The mandatory labeling system should ensure a link between beef products and the individual animals or groups of animals from which the meat originates. Each label, starting from September 1, 2000, should contain an identification number or code guaranteeing such a link, the approval number of the slaughterhouse and cutting plant, and the symbols of the country (or countries) where these plants operate. From January 1, 2002, the label must additionally contain the symbols of the country (or countries) of birth, rearing, and slaughter.
