– Until now, LCL transport would stop for a few days in Bremen – explains Michał Kołodziejski, Ocean Freight Director. – That is where the deconsolidation of containers took place, and individual batches of goods would set off for Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and other countries in our region.
LCL is a transport system in which several smaller clients fill an entire container. Hence the need for logistical consolidation hubs – like the one in New York, which serves the entire USA, or the one in Bremen, which serves Central Europe.
– The volume of shipments from the USA to Poland was, however, so large that we decided to launch a new service – says Kołodziejski. – Now, entire containers are transported directly to Poland. This allows for savings of 4 to 13 days depending on the region of the States from which the shipment originates – on average, a week.
LCL freight is experiencing a renaissance due to the economic slowdown. Some exporters and importers are finding it difficult to fill an entire container with goods. Forced to use Less Container Load, they often wait and lose time. Direct Box is intended to change this situation.
– LCL transport on key routes is faster and more competitive thanks to our new service – assesses Michał Kołodziejski. – Similar services already exist on the route from Asia to Poland. LCL transport on the transatlantic route (USA-PL) is most often used by companies associated with the following industries: Engineering & Manufacturing, metallurgy, construction, and food.
