– We are very proud to have the first female team in the transport and logistics industry in Saudi Arabia. The ladies are well-trained and highly motivated. From the beginning, they have convinced us with their ambition and great results – said Nour Suliman, CEO in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. – By supporting the Saudi government’s efforts to increase the number of women working in business, we are happy to provide an appropriate work environment while benefiting from their knowledge and commitment.
The women work in the Telesales Department and the Data Validation Center (DVC), processing orders for key DHL clients and coordinating work with government agencies and other institutions. Since they began their work, both departments have been recognized as high-performing teams, quickly reaching high positions in DHL’s internal global rankings and a leading position in the Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.
Hiring women in Saudi Arabia was previously limited mainly to the education and healthcare sectors. The Kingdom’s Five-Year Development Plan for 2004-2009 aims to increase the number of women among the workforce in Saudi Arabia from 10.3 percent in 2004 to 14.2 percent by the end of 2009. Since 58 percent of university graduates are women, the Saudi government has recognized the need to increase female employment and is encouraging the Kingdom’s private sector to create more jobs for the growing number of qualified women.
– Around the world, logistics offers increasing opportunities. Due to the wide range of activities, professionals from various management fields can develop their careers in our industry. Women are increasingly able to take advantage of this opportunity – said Edyta Turkiewicz, Communications and PR Director at DHL Express (Poland). – At DHL Express, the number of women employed increases year by year. We definitely predominate in the Finance and Administration, HR, or Sales and Marketing departments. Today, women make up over 40 percent of the entire DHL Express Poland team, and this percentage is constantly growing.
