Minister Magdalena Środa presented Motorola with the “Swedish Equality Glasses” – an award for the innovative “Diversity” program, which opens up career paths for girls in the IT profession.
Motorola has been honored with the “Swedish Equality Glasses” award. The distinction was presented by Minister Magdalena Środa, the Government Plenipotentiary for the Equal Status of Women and Men. Motorola was awarded for its “Diversity” program, which aims to change the stereotypical perception of the software engineering profession and encourage high school students, especially girls, to choose computer science studies.
– We decided to award Motorola because its “Diversity” program implements the best ideas of gender equality in the labor market in an interesting and effective way. The company creates opportunities for women to pursue careers in a profession previously perceived as typically male – said Magdalena Środa.
The “Swedish Equality Glasses” are awarded by a chapter consisting of members of the Program and Advisory Council, operating under the Government Plenipotentiary for the Equal Status of Women and Men. The award is given to individuals or institutions that best promote the idea of gender equality through their actions and recognize the problem of gender discrimination. The award, designed by Marianne Laxen, has been presented since 2001, when Sweden held the presidency of the European Union.
– We are proud of this distinction. Motorola has shown that a woman’s career in the IT profession is possible. Our company has always supported the idea of gender equality because teams that are diverse in terms of gender, education, or experience are the most effective at solving difficult tasks and, therefore, best able to meet competition – said Katarzyna Reinfuss, HR Manager at Motorola.
The proprietary “Diversity” educational program was developed and introduced by Motorola in 2000. Over the five years of its existence, more than 3,000 high school students from all over Poland have participated in it.
