The largest companies in the Polish e-commerce sector, including the owners of Empik.pl, Merlin.pl, Fly.pl, Skąpiec.pl, Nokaut.pl, Euro RTV AGD, Neo24, Komputronik, imerge, PayU, Dotpay, Przelewy24, and the Allegro Group, have decided to establish the Electronic Economy Chamber, known as the “e-Chamber”. The creation of the “e-Chamber” involves companies for which the use of information and communication technology (ICT) innovations, and in particular the Internet, forms the foundation not only of their businesses but also of the future development of the Polish and European economy in general.
Within the framework of the e-Chamber, under the “e-Commerce Polska” brand, a group of entities specializing in electronic commerce has begun close cooperation, including entrepreneurs running online stores, transaction platforms, price comparison engines, electronic payment operators, and services offering the purchase of services electronically. The main motivation and reason for establishing the Electronic Economy Chamber is the increasing impact of legislative changes on entrepreneurs operating on the Internet. The Founding Committee of the e-Chamber concluded that the best legal form to guarantee the achievement of the assumed goals would be an economic chamber.
The formula of the e-Chamber corresponds to the broad definition of “e-commerce” contained in European Union directives. It therefore covers both electronic commerce, services provided electronically, and information society services. The e-Chamber is open to a broad representation of the Internet industry, start-ups, and entities from traditional sectors of the economy providing their services electronically.
Before the e-Chamber is formally established, entrepreneurs can join the initiative through the e-Economy Club, operating under the Electronic Economy Development Foundation, using the form on the website www.ecommercepolska.pl. All communication preceding the creation of the e-Chamber takes place within this Club.
The opening of the e-Chamber is planned for the beginning of 2013.
