Distributor invests in logistics

Pronox Technology launched a logistics center in Katowice at the turn of July and August 2005. The terminal utilizes one of the most advanced remote warehouse management solutions. The investment is estimated at PLN 15 million.

“We decided to build our own logistics center to meet the growing expectations and requirements of our contractors even more effectively. The benefit of launching a modern, fully computerized terminal, which all existing and potential clients of Pronox Technology SA will certainly appreciate, is significantly faster service while eliminating potential errors that could accompany such a dynamic process during goods dispatch. Furthermore, this investment will allow the Company to gain new, additional development opportunities. In our long-term strategies, we anticipate, among other things, broader utilization of our logistics potential,” says Dariusz Smagorowicz, Vice President of Pronox Technology SA.

Operations in the terminal are controlled via an IT system based on an Oracle database and software from Digitland. The high-bay warehouse management module is a proprietary solution developed by Pronox Technology SA and Digitland. The management system utilizes wireless technology solutions. The entire warehouse area is covered by a radio network, allowing for online operations. Employees use portable devices – modern radio terminals from the renowned company SYMBOL. The MC9060 terminals, equipped with a color display, wireless network, and laser scanner, ensure perfect communication between the warehouse worker and the headquarters.

Storage and identification of goods are based on barcode technology. The system identifies employees, tools supporting logistics processes, goods, storage locations, and intermediate storage areas, starting from the moment the cargo is received at the ramp. All movements and individuals participating in the storage process are recorded. During delivery, goods are separated into appropriate packages enabling optimal storage. Subsequently, instructions for the proper placement of goods are automatically generated and transmitted to the warehouse workers responsible for transport within the facility. The time of initiation and completion of the instruction is recorded. After the warehousing process is completed, the goods are automatically made available for sale. Movement orders are also generated fully automatically. Registration takes place in two stages: upon receipt of the transport at the Logistics Center and upon dispatch of goods from the terminal. This solution ensures security and accurate tracking of the flow of goods through the warehouse.

The terminal area covers 8,000 square meters. The use of high-bay racking allows for the intake of goods with a total volume of 63,900 cubic meters, enabling the simultaneous storage of 6,500 Euro-pallets. The center is equipped with 11 automatic gates, 8 hydraulic ramps, and a modern fire protection and security system allowing for direct transmission of alarm signals to the fire department and monitoring station.

The Silesian company Pronox Technology is planning to go public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange next year.
