In the era of globalization and increasing competition in manufacturing areas, product effects, and consequently in decision optimization creation processes, the efficiency of management becomes essential [7, 13]. Therefore, throughout the entire course of implementing cost-quality activities, the condition for building a lasting advantage and thus the development of an organization is M.E. Porter’s value chain [1, 11, 12]. It is therefore important to verify the evaluation system for material selection (input) with the product effects achievable as a result of the transformation [2, 3, 9]. Regardless of the stage of the activities undertaken, it is important to identify the input material parameters – the selection and typing of limit process parameters, as well as the proper assessment of external expectations. At each level, it is necessary to perform interval estimation of quality results, taking into account emergence and – thus – typing of compliance: capabilities – effect – expectations of the external and internal customer [8, 14].
Input data
Suppliers of input material were observed in the years 1998-2003. Assuming that the input material (for each supplier) before verifying its defectiveness constitutes 100% = 1 (tab. 2), a measurement function was constructed, where less preferred states (lower quality) were assigned higher values (Q3 – highest quality, Q2 – satisfactory, Q1 – low), contrary to what the classic consumer decision process model assumes (here: the recipient of the input material). For the purposes of numerical analysis, material prices from the analyzed suppliers were compiled as a function of time – taking into account budget constraints reduced by transport costs T (tab. 1). In 1998 and 1999 – regardless of the distribution of quality features – supplier C was chosen due to budget constraints. Hence, from the year 2000, the number of input material suppliers was expanded to include suppliers D and E – despite the extended waiting time and transport costs (which was taken into account in B (Kr)- T). Based on the data presented in tab. 1, 2, the position of the analyzed products in the price-quality space in 2000 was analyzed.
