Boeing delivers first 747-400ER Freighter to TNT

In the final weeks of last year, Boeing handed over to TNT Express Worldwide the first of the ordered Boeing 747-400ER Freighter aircraft, which will be integrated into the global express delivery provider’s fleet this month.

– The delivery of the Boeing 747 aircraft is another step for TNT towards achieving the position of a leading carrier between Asia and Europe – said Peter Bakker, CEO of TNT N.V. – Air connections operated by the new machines will complement TNT’s integrated air and road network, allowing the company to provide customers with the fastest guaranteed delivery times in Europe. At the same time, the transparency of our operations and the ability to control shipments using advanced IT solutions employed by TNT allow for a reduction in overall supply chain costs.

Currently, TNT operates a fleet of 46 aircraft on the European continent, including planes from this manufacturer, such as the Boeing 737 Freighter and Boeing 757 Freighter models. Another Jumbo Jet 747-400 ER, following the one just delivered, will expand TNT’s air fleet as early as spring 2007.

– We congratulate TNT on choosing Boeing 747 Freighter aircraft – machines ideal for transport purposes – said Marlin Dailey, Vice President of Europe, Russian and Central Asia Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes – The excellent operational qualities and environmentally friendly solutions of the Boeing 747-400ER Freighter model have ensured the success and leading market position of the 747 Freighter series.

Boeing is the undisputed leader in the air transport market – its aircraft account for over 90 percent of the total global cargo capacity (the Boeing 747 Freighter series alone carries half of the world’s cargo). A characteristic feature of the 747 Freighter is the unique nose door (adapted for oversized freight), which allows for increased loading space.
