Almost 10 million tons of freight in February

Similar to January, in February, the transport of aggregates grew by far the fastest, increasing three-and-a-half times compared to the same period in 2010. After two months of 2011, the company’s total transport amounted to 19.52 million tons, which is 27 percent more than a year earlier (15.37 million tons) and 20 percent more than the plan approved by the PKP CARGO management board (16.26 million tons). Transport performance during this time amounted to 4.94 billion ntkm and was 27.5 percent higher than a year ago and 16 percent higher than the plan assumed. The increase in the transport of stone, gravel, and lime in January and February by as much as 367 percent (from 971 thousand tons to 3.57 million tons) caused the share of this commodity group in the company’s transport to increase from 6.3 percent to 18.3 percent. Among the significant commodity groups, the transport of ores and pyrites (an increase of over 34 percent) as well as wood and wood products (an increase of 26 percent) also grew clearly. The most important commodity group among those transported by PKP CARGO invariably remains hard coal, of which the company transported over 8.5 million tons in the January-February 2011 period, almost 8 percent more than a year earlier.
