Abstract: In times of constant growth in air traffic, safety is defined as particularly important. Risk and threats are constantly present in the flight safety system, and the criteria for the construction of technical devices and safety measures are usually tightened only after an accident or a serious aviation incident. Referring to statistics, attention should be paid in particular to safety in the airport movement area. This is possible, among other things, thanks to the appropriate placement of radiolocation elements. These also include the ASDE system, which is popular in the United States. It enables air traffic controllers to detect potential collision streams by providing information about traffic on the runway and taxiways. The aim of the considerations is to propose the placement of the Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE) system at the Okęcie Airport in Warsaw.
1. INTRODUCTION
Former commander of the Air Force and Air Defense – Jerzy Gotowała said that “the truth of tomorrow’s aviation is usually fed by the mistakes of yesterday”. This statement seems to be true. Risk and threats are constantly present in the flight safety system, and the criteria for the construction of technical devices and safety measures are usually tightened only after an accident or a serious aviation incident. In aviation, safety is a particularly important phenomenon. Interesting for both the passenger and the aircraft crew.
Methods of ensuring safety largely determine the success of civil and military aviation systems [1].
It is therefore important to work on increasing safety in airport traffic, i.e., traffic on the maneuvering area of an airport or airfield and the movement of all aircraft performing flights near an airport or airfield [2]. This is possible – among other things – thanks to the appropriate placement of radiolocation elements. Radiolocation is a branch of telecommunications dealing with the use of radio waves to locate and determine the movement parameters of aircraft objects [6]. The purpose of this article is to propose the placement of the Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE) system (…)
