The launch of air freight was made possible by expanding cooperation with Wincanton’s agent, with whom the company works when providing sea freight services. Wincanton began implementing the offer by importing cargo from the Far East, from where it is delivered to Poland via airports in Frankfurt and Warsaw. Currently, the offer also includes a combined, cheaper form of transport known as “sea-air”, where the goods first travel by sea for 2-3 days to the nearest transshipment port in Inchon or approx. 7 days to Dubai, from where they are loaded onto a plane. Wincanton’s agent has long-standing, experienced partners in these ports, which has a very positive impact on the progress and efficiency of this form of transport.
– We very often dealt with situations where our client’s shippers did not manage to load the entire batch of goods into a container, or customers needed to receive a smaller batch of goods in a short time. In such situations, we had to use the help of our subcontractors, which often generated additional costs. We wanted to change this, hence the decision to launch a new service – commented Anna Szymanowicz, Director of Transport and Sea Freight, on the changes.
Air transport is an important sector of the global economy, as it generates economic growth in many industrial sectors.
– The biggest challenge in organizing air transport was to organize customs clearance and transshipment at the port of unloading as quickly as possible. We solved this problem with the help of a customs agency cooperating with us, which on the same day carries out both the transit clearance at Okęcie and the final simplified clearance of the cargo on the truck, so as not to block fast delivery to the client – added Szymanowicz.
However, the main key to the success of the smooth implementation of the new service by Wincanton is the long-term cooperation of the company’s agent with many airlines on the basis of a blocked space agreement, which in practice means that in exchange for a previously deposited deposit, Wincanton has a guarantee of space and a favorable rate.
