Transport in the distribution network using the brewing industry as an example

Transport management is associated with high costs incurred by enterprises. These costs are related to the fact of owning means of transport, their maintenance, repairs, and garaging. It should be noted that the transport sphere is entirely dependent on the company’s management – it can therefore be subject to optimization under conditions determined by internal regulations. It is worth noting the share of transport costs in total logistics costs. As research shows, transport costs account for more than half of logistics costs. This fact is not insignificant, because the possibility of reducing this part of costs can allow for a significant reduction in total costs, and the savings obtained in this way can be used for the development of the enterprise. There are many possibilities for reducing transport costs – however, they must always be the result of a thorough analysis of the enterprise and its environment.
The organization and management of a distribution network require the analysis of many factors that influence the way the network functions and the changes that take place within it. Often, these are independent factors resulting from market changes. Changes are also a derivative of competitive struggle in the market and continuous changes in customer requirements and service standards. With a changing market, its structure, and sensitivity to dynamic changes in customer preferences, managers are forced to actively observe and dynamically change the structures of their own logistics network. Changes are also the result of continuous improvement of the management system – this is associated with constant controlling of all management zones and the relationships occurring between processes within the enterprise.
In the article, the transport issue is addressed in the context of distribution in the brewing industry. Examining changes in the distribution network cannot be detached from the environment of the analyzed problem due to certain specific conditions characteristic of various industries on the market.
